Creative Parallels
Art is a shared experience. The artist creates the work, and the viewer, in turn, is given the opportunity to process that creation, reflect on how it makes them feel, and consider what it inspires within their own life. I think of this exchange as a creative parallel a visual and emotional symbiosis.
The root of my visual expression begins with pen and paper. The practice of drawing evolves into painting, and the two work together throughout my creative process. I begin most days with some form of this practice, building a foundation of visual material that continually informs my work. Living in the Pacific Northwest provides a constant source of inspiration that flows into the work and takes form in a somewhat abstracted, conceptual way. Through this process, I develop interpretations of nature that invite viewers to engage and experience the work on their own terms.
The idea of the “continuum” is a recurring theme throughout my work the notion of a collective and interwoven image base. While each work stands on its own, they remain connected through color, value, line, form, and texture. Together, they become both large and small windows into an expressive visual dialogue.
